If a non-Googler wants to send a fix to a Google open source project, they must first sign a Contributor City License Agreement (CLA). This allows the contributor to retain ownership of the submitted code and grant Google the legal rights to use that contribution. The CLA must be signed only once and covers all Google projects. However, it is optional and each contributor cannot cede their copyright to KDE e.V. If you have verified that the company`s CTC has been accepted and is using the correct email address, the problem may be that they have not been added as an authorized contributor to your business. The contributor must contact the company`s point of contact to be added. Apply and we`ll help you determine who it is. An open source project includes a community of software developers who agree to develop a common software code base and make it available for free, but who are subject to certain licensing requirements. The resulting software is usually verified by several contributors to the open source project and can be updated and improved based on their contributions. Open source software is widely used in many popular software, including Mozilla Firefox, WordPress, GNU/Linux, Android mobile devices, Open Java Development Kit (OpenJDK) and even commercial products like Apple`s OS X.
In this document, the contributor gave the Canonical the copyright and, at the same time Canonical, the contributor “a global, non-exclusive, free and permanent right to use, modify, communicate and make available to the public the contributions awarded (including without restriction on the Internet) and to distribute the contributions awarded, in an original or modified manner, as they wish.” [35] [36] There are several ways to implement a CLA. Some projects may opt for a short and simple CLA agreement, while others may choose a more detailed legal instrument. In addition, some projects may require separate CLAs for individual contributors and business contributors. While CLAs can take many different forms, here are some provisions that are often included. A CTC is designed to ensure that the custodian of the project results has the necessary ownership or the granting of rights to all contributions so that they can be distributed under the chosen license. In some cases, this means that the contributor cedes the copyright to all contributions to the project owner; in other cases, they grant an irrevocable license to allow the project manager to use the contribution. CLAs also play a role in raising awareness of IPR issues within a project. For example, the CTC may indicate that the contributor is contributing on the basis of “As Is” without any explicit or tacit guarantees regarding title, non-counterfeiting, cashibility and/or suitability for a specific use.
